DC Bokaro orders Pre-Monsoon drainage cleanup

Sunday, 02 June 2024 | PNS | BOKARO

On Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner,  Vijaya Jadhav, issued directives to the Additional Municipal Commissioner of Chas Municipal Corporation, the Executive Officer of Phushro Municipal Council, and all Block Development Officers. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that drainage systems in the city, including streets, wards, and other areas, are thoroughly cleaned before the monsoon season. Stagnant water during rains can lead to flooding of homes and increase the risk of epidemics.

DC Jadhav also highlighted the dangers posed by weak electric poles and overhanging branches during the rainy season. She noted that old and weakened poles pose a risk of collapsing, which could lead to potential loss of life and property. Similarly, low-hanging electric wires can also be hazardous.

The directives include ensuring that all streets, wards, intersections, and other locations with drainage systems are cleaned to prevent waterlogging. Post-cleaning, bleaching powder should be sprinkled in the cleaned areas. Waste collected during cleaning should be promptly removed. Weak electric poles should be replaced, and any low-hanging electric wires should be fixed. Old tree branches should be trimmed to prevent them from breaking.

Additionally, Jadhav called for an intensive campaign against the use of plastic, urging compliance with regulations. She also instructed that daily photographs and reports of the aforementioned tasks be submitted to her office for review.
