CM fiat to complete drinking water projects in time

Chief Minister Champai Soren today conducted an in-depth review of the latest work progress of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in the presence of officials in the Jharkhand Ministry. In the meeting, the CM directed the officials to complete all the small and big schemes taken under the Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal) Gramin within the stipulated time frame. The CM directed that all those houses where tap water has been supplied, review whether there is availability of water in the taps installed under the scheme or not.

The CM said that it should be ensured that water reaches all the houses covered under Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that the Jal Jeevan Mission is an important scheme to provide tap water to every house. Our government is trying to solve the drinking water problem with full readiness. The CM directed the officials to complete all the water supply projects run by the government on time and pay special attention to the availability of accessible drinking water in the state and quality in connection works.

The CM told the officials to work with special caution so that the operation and maintenance of rural water supply schemes is done in a better way. He said that the work progress of new tube wells approved at the Panchayat level should be accelerated. Repair work of defunct tube wells should also be done. The CM said that people should not face any problem of pure drinking water during the rainy season. He told the officials that the department should also prepare a special action plan to avoid a drinking water crisis in future.

Soren told the officials that the World Bank-supported water supply scheme was taken in 2023 in Intagarh and Dudra Kamalpur under Seraikela-Kharsawan district, but due to the negligence of the agency, this scheme could not be completed, the department should ensure action against the agency which has been negligent and this water supply scheme should be completed by getting new approval. He directed the officials that in the past few days, such news has been received from various sources that in some districts of the state, villagers are bringing drinking water from water sources like Chuna, pond, well etc, in the areas where such news is being received, ensure the arrangement of pure drinking water by conducting an investigation there. Whatever complaints related to drinking water are being received by the department, resolve them at any cost.

The CM directed the officials to complete all such multi-rural water supply schemes which have been targeted to be completed by the month of September-October 2024, by the month of July-August 2024 at all costs. The Chief Minister said that there are some mountains within the state from where the waterfall falls, water supply schemes can also be taken at those places. Identify such mountains and make an action plan.

The CM directed the officials to link the toilet construction scheme being built under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) with the Abua Housing Scheme. He directed the officials that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, only Rs 12 thousand is given for the construction of toilets, the officers should also review whether a quality toilet can be built in this amount or not. The CM said that his government is committed to giving a better toilet to the beneficiaries of Abua Housing which can be used for a long time. While reviewing the biogas plant constructed under the Gobardhan Project, the CM directed the officials to widely publicize this scheme in rural areas. Inform the villagers about the benefits of the biogas plant.

State Chief Secretary L. Khiangte, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Secretary of Tejal and Sanitation Department Rajesh Sharma, Secretary to the Chief Minister Arwa Rajkamal, Chief Engineer-in-Chief Brajnandan Kumar, Chief Engineer, Headquarters Shishir Kumar Soren and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
