General Officer, Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command of Indian Army and Lieutenant General Ramchandra Tiwari (UYSM, AVSM, SM) paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Champai Soren here on Tuesday. On this occasion, the CM expressed his sentiments regarding the formation of a tribal regiment on the lines of Jat Regiment, Bihar Regiment, Punjab Regiment, Sikh Regiment and Madras Regiment etc. He said that the formation of a tribal regiment will also give a separate identity to the tribals across the country in the army.
On this occasion, Lieutenant General Ramchandra Tiwari also proposed the formation of an Ecological Territorial Army in Jharkhand from the point of view of environmental protection. On this, the Chief Minister said that the government will provide full cooperation on receiving a proposal from the army in this matter. It is worth noting that the Ecological Territorial Army of the Army consists of ex-servicemen who work for the environment. With the formation of Ecological Territorial Army in Jharkhand, the army will also be able to contribute on a large scale in the campaign for environmental protection. Especially considering the geographical environment of this state, environmental protection will be promoted through tree plantation and other means in forests and mining areas.
The CM said that tribal youth of Jharkhand have been serving in the Indian Army. The army should take initiative in bringing the tribals forward so that the tribals here get more and more opportunities in army recruitment. Lieutenant General Ramchandra Tiwari assured the Chief Minister that in this direction, all other support including training will be provided to the tribals through the local GOC of the Army to prepare them for army recruitment.
Lieutenant General Tiwari thanked the Chief Minister for the cooperation being given by the state government in organizing the Durand Cup football competition. He said that the Durand Cup (President Cup) is the oldest football competition in Asia and the second oldest in the world. This time this competition is to be organized in the hosting of Jamshedpur, in which the state government is cooperating at every level.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Lieutenant General Rajendra Puri, Secretary to the Chief Minister Arwa Rajkamal, Major General Paramveer Singh Dagar, Colonel VS Adkar and Major General MP Singh were present.
