The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday, a couple of days after Delhi was lashed by 228.1 mm of rains, bringing the city to its knees and claiming multiple lives.
Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung recorded 37.1 as the maximum temperature, 0.3 degrees below the normal. The minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees, a notch below the normal. The feel like temperature or heat index for the national capital was 44 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for the city till Tuesday as it has predicted overcast conditions and heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday in Delhi. The met department forecasted a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and thunderstorm accompanied with gusty wind for Sunday.
According to the weather department, 9 mm of rain was recorded in the city on Sunday, while humidity was 78 per cent at 8:30 am and 60 per cent at 5.30 pm. Additionally, Najafgarh recorded its maximum temperature at 36.3 degrees celsius, Aya nagar at 37 degrees, Lodi road at 36.6 degrees, Palam at 37 degrees, Ridge at 36.3 degrees, Pitampura at 38.2 degrees, Pusa at 36.5 degrees, Salwan Public school at 36.2 degrees and Jafarpur at 37.3 degrees.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was in the "moderate" category with a reading of 118 at 6 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
