Himachal Governor and CM felicitate people on Makar Sankranti

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu have felicitated the people of the state on Makar Sankranti. In his felicitation message, the Governor said that this joyous festival marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest season. He hoped that the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti would bring prosperity and happiness in the lives of the people of the State. The Chief Minister while congratulating the people on Makar Sankranti said that this festival has both a seasonal as well as a religious significance. The day marks Lord Surya’s transit into Makara Raashi, or Capricorn zodiac. It is considered to be one of the most auspicious days of the year. He hoped the festival would bring happiness and prosperity to the people of the State.
 
Haryana announces half day on Jan 15 for its offices in UT

Chandigarh: Haryana government has declared half day (afternoon) on January 15 (Monday) as public holiday for all the employees in its departments, boards and corporations situated in Chandigarh on account of 'Nagar Kirtan' in connection with Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Human Resources Department.

Architect Bahga’s Book released

Chandigarh: Eminent architect Surinder Bahga, has come up with his book, “Form Follows Roots – Architecture for India 1985 – 2021”, an insight into contemporary architecture of India from 1985 to 2021. The book, on which architect Bahga has worked for 23 years, was released by reputed architect SD Sharma in the presence of many eminent architects, authors and other prominent personalities of Chandigarh. Bahga while speaking about the book said, “India’s post-independence modern architecture is well documented in various books uptill 1985 mainly focusing on works for the elite class not forming the true representation of Indian middle class and economically weaker section of the society.” He further said, “This publication is an endeavour to cover works of small cities, towns and villages which require a different kind of tackling altogether, as skilled manpower and machinery are not easily available at such places. The main body of work highlights projects catering to the lower and middle income groups, barring some exceptions of prestigious projects. Current issues from the field of architecture have been addressed in the book by quoting practical examples.”

Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs cooperative deptt Sr Assistant

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday, arrested Rajinder Singh, posted as Senior Assistant in the office of Assistant Registrar, Punjab Cooperatives Department, Kharar, district Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. An official spokesperson of the state VB, said the accused official, a resident of Garden Colony, Kharar, has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Jaspal Singh, a resident of village Bagindi, tehsil Kharar, who has been working as Secretary in the milk collection society in village Seonk, tehsil Kharar. The complainant approached the VB and alleged that Rajinder Singh was demanding Rs 10,000 as a bribe in lieu of clearing a file pertaining to the election of the milk collection society of village Seonk, which was pending in his office. The flying squad unit of VB, after a preliminary inquiry of this complaint, laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. 

MEET HAYER CONGRATULATES SAMRA FOR WINNING GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS AT THE ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

 Chandigarh: Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Saturday congratulated the Faridkot based Shooter Sift Kaur Samra for winning the Gold and Silver Medal at the Asian Championship being held in Jakarta. Sift won gold in the team event and silver in the individual event. Meet Hayer said that Sift Kaur Samra has made the name of the state and the country bright with her continuous good performance. Sift won Gold and Silver medals in the Asian Games last year with a World record. She also Won a bronze medal in the World Cup. She also qualified for the Paris Olympic Games. The Sports Minister also congratulated Sift Kaur Samra's parents and coach for her achievements. In the ongoing Asian Championship-2024 (Rifle/Pistol) held in Jakarta, Sift Kaur Samra won the Silver medal in the individual category by scoring 460.6 points while the Gold Medal winner Korea’s Eunseo Lee scored 462.5 points. Sift won a Gold medal in the team category.

RANJIT SAGAR DAM'S WATER OUTFLOW TO REMAIN CLOSED FOR 31 DAYS 


Chandigarh: Punjab Water Resources Department has decided to close the water outflow from Ranjit Sagar Dam for 31 days for urgent work and water filling in the reservoir of Shahpurkandi Dam. An official spokesperson said that keeping in view the weather condition and status of crops, water outflow from Ranjit Sagar Dam will remain closed for 31 days from January 15, 2024 to February 14, 2024 (both days inclusive) to complete the urgent work including plugging of under sluices and impounding of Shahpurkandi Dam.

BDPO ARRESTED BY VB TAKING BRIBE FROM SARPANCHES SUSPENDED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

Chandigarh: Punjab Rural Development & Panchayat department has suspended the services of Mamdot's Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Sarabjit Singh with immediate effect. Sarabjit Singh was apprehended by the Vigilance Bureau a day before for accepting bribe from sarpanches.
