BJP poll debutant Chandolia beats opponent by three lakh votes

BJP poll debutante Yogendra Chandolia from the reserved seat of Northwest Delhi won with the biggest margin of about three lakhs votes on Tuesday, defeating joint Congress and INDIA alliance Udit Raj.

Considered a grass root level leader, which was one of the reasons why he was given a ticket replacing acclaimed singer Hans Raj Hans, and elected as the Municipal Councillor several times, the leader secured a thumping win with over 8.65 lakh votes. While on the other hand, Raj, the North West Delhi’s former BJP MP who later joined the Congress, trailed behind by securing over 5.65 lakh votes in the elections.

The BSP’s candidate Vijay Bauddh came third, however trailing behind with a big margin, securing over 10,000 votes.

While Chandolia contested yet lost the Delhi Assembly elections in 2015 and 2020 from the Karol Bagh constituency to the AAP's Vishesh Ravi in both the elections, he is winning the parliamentary seat with a big margin.

A total of 26 candidates fought from the reserved seat with eight candidates contesting independently.

During his election campaigning, Chandolia promised his voters to support the construction of a sports university in the nation's capital as well as the establishment of a Metro link that would connect Bawana and Narela in order to demonstrate his commitment to infrastructure and educational advancement to transform the area.

A total of 8,450 voters pressed the None of the above (NOTA) button during the polling day on May 25 in the national capital in the sixth phase of election.
