Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a rally on Wednesday, targeted Samajwadi Party and Congress, suggesting that they will blame electronic voting machines (EVMs) for their anticipated defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a public meeting in support of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pankaj Chaudhary in Maharajganj, Shah asserted that the BJP has already crossed the majority mark in the first five phases of polling.
“The counting is on June 4. In the afternoon, the two ‘shehzade’ (Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav) will hold a press conference and say we lost the election because EVM was defective,” he remarked.
He further claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party has secured over 310 seats.
“Rahul baba, you will not get even 40 seats, and the other ‘shehzade’ (Akhilesh Yadav) will just get four seats,” he stated.
Shah criticised the opposition for lacking a clear prime ministerial candidate, mockingly suggesting that they propose having five prime ministers over five years. “This is not a general store but a nation of 130 crore people. Can such a prime minister work?” he questioned.
Shah also targeted the Congress, dismissing its concerns about Pakistan’s atomic capabilities. “Congress leaders say that Pakistan has an atom bomb, but BJP people are not scared of atom bombs. Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is and will remain part of India, and we will take it back,” he declared.
Addressing local issues, Shah referenced the Sahara scam, alleging involvement of Akhilesh Yadav’s government in it.
“The scam took place in your government, Akhilesh. Mod ji started the process of refund,” he claimed.
The Sahara group has denied these allegations, maintaining that they followed regulations.
Shah sought to connect with farmers, marking the death anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh. “Narendra Modi did the work of giving him Bharat Ratna and gave respect to all the farmers of Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
He also accused the previous governments of neglecting the sugar industry, promising the construction of a new mega sugar mill in Maharajganj if the BJP returns to power.
Polling in Maharajganj is scheduled for June 1.
