The Central BJP unit on Monday appointed Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the election in-charges for Jharkhand.
Chauhan, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and under whose leadership recently BJP made a clean sweep in Madhya Pradesh by winning all 29 seats and Sarma, renowned for his impactful speeches and strong leadership, are expected to revitalize the party’s campaign. However, Laxmikant Vajpayee will continue his role as the in-charge for Jharkhand BJP.
With these two appointments the party is focusing on reversing its fortunes after a disappointing performance in the 2019 Assembly elections, where it managed to win only 25 seats, which later increased to 26 following Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha merger with the BJP. This was a stark contrast to the 2014 elections where the BJP secured 47 seats in the 81-member Assembly, enabling Raghubar Das to lead the government for a full term.
The party aims to develop a new strategy targeting tribal-dominated constituencies, an area where it struggled in 2019, winning just 2 out of 28 reserved ST seats. The involvement of Chauhan and Sarma is seen as a move to strengthen the BJP’s position in these key regions.
State BJP leaders, including President Babulal Marandi and Opposition Leader Amar Bauri, have expressed their support for the new election in-charges. Marandi emphasized that under the guidance of Chauhan and Sarma, the BJP aims to establish a double-engine government in Jharkhand. The state BJP has welcomed and congratulated both the appointments.
BJP state president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi said that both the leaders are experienced, hardworking and efficient organizers. Marandi said that Shivraj Singh ji and Hemant Vishwa Sharma ji have also sweated a lot in the Lok Sabha elections of Jharkhand. They addressed many meetings in the scorching heat.
He said that the party will benefit from their experiences, efficiency and direct guidance in the upcoming assembly elections.
He said that under the guidance of the election in-charge and co-in-charge, the BJP will form a strong double engine government in the state by overthrowing the corrupt, useless thugbandhan government of the state. Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri while welcoming and congratulating them said that the BJP has started preparing for the assembly elections. The public has already taught a lesson to the Indi Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections itself.
He said that under the guidance of Shivraj ji and Hemant Vishwa Sharma ji, the party will form the government in the state with record votes. Those who welcomed included regional organization general secretary Nagendra Tripathi, state organization general secretary Karmaveer Singh, outgoing state president and MP Deepak Prakash, state general secretary and MP Aditya Sahu, Dr. Pradeep Verma, Manoj Singh, and others.
