In the results of Cleanliness Survey-2023, Bhopal is the fifth cleanest city in the country with 5 star rating. It took 5 years for Bhopal to move from 19th to 5th position. This is the best ranking after 2017 and 2018 and due to which celebrations were witnessed from Delhi to Bhopal.
As soon as the ranking was announced in New Delhi, celebrations started in Bhopal. Cleaning workers gathered outside the corporation office located at Mata Mandir. Corporation Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi sweetened the sanitation workers by feeding them laddus and also played the drum. They danced with the cleaners. On the other hand, Mayor Malti Rai congratulated the people from Delhi itself. Sanitation officials claim that Bhopal has done better work in processing 5 types of waste including wet, dry and medical. Because of this there was a gain of one place. The previous ranking was sixth.

In the cleanliness survey, Indore, the cleanest city of the country, has got 98 percent marks on the source segregation parameter of waste. At the same time, Bhopal is 3 points behind Indore in terms of source segregation of waste. Bhopal is fulfilling only 95 percent of the parameters of source segregation of waste.
Indore has proved to be 100 percent correct on the parameters of cleanliness in public toilets, whereas in Bhopal only 97 percent of the cleanliness of public toilets has been as per the parameters. According to the report, Indore has got 100 percent marks and Bhopal has got 97 percent marks in the cleanliness category of public toilets. In the evaluation of this parameter, Bhopal lagged behind Indore by 3 points.
An average of 800 tonnes of garbage is generated every day in the capital. It contains 300 tonnes of wet and 500 tonnes of dry waste. At the same time, medical waste is also generated. The corporation took effective steps regarding wet and dry waste. This is the reason why the ranking improved.
Last time Bhopal had secured sixth position in the country. At the same time, Garbage Free City got a 5 star rating. There are many such works of the corporation behind this, which are included in this category. Among these, C&D plants, bio-CNG and better disposal of waste are important. The then Corporation Commissioner KVS Chaudhary Kolsani had signed an agreement with the agencies regarding C&D plant, Bio CNG and Charcoal plant.
In Swachh Survekshan, Bhopal had achieved second rank in the country for two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, Bhopal had slipped to number 19. At that time, due to continuous transfer of officers, the direction of preparations could not be decided, but in 2020, by doing less, it moved up by 12 places and achieved 7th rank. Bhopal had also secured 7th position in the 2021 survey.
In the matter of cleanliness, Bhopal Corporation has overcome many challenges in the last 2-3 years. The biggest challenge among these was the mountain of garbage at Bhanpur Khanti, which was eliminated. He also cleaned the garbage from Adampur Cantonment and made it suitable for playing cricket there. Connected the cleaning of drains to the common people. The officers even played badminton with the people in the drain of Vijayanagar Market. Many innovations including garbage collection management, Jugaad from junk, zero waste colony were also made.
Eliminated the mountain of garbage from Bhanpur Khanti. At the same time, a five-acre landfill site was constructed in Adampur Cantonment. Many tonnes of garbage have been removed. Charcoal and CNG plants are going to be set up here. Both the plants can start by May. After this, CNG and coal will be made from the waste. This will not only clean the garbage, but the corporation will also earn money from it.
Door-to-door garbage collection plays the most important role in cleanliness. A route chart is prepared so that the garbage cart reaches every house at a certain time.
The time was fixed. New vehicles were purchased as per need. Along with installing GPS in these, a team along with an Assistant Commissioner level officer was deployed in the control room from 6 am in the morning for online monitoring.
