Addressing young girls in the state capital, retired Director General of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) NK Tripathi on Monday advised females to be aware of their legal rights to bring atrocities to an end.
The retired police official was speaking at a programme organised by Congress leader Manoj Shukla at a prominent hotel in the state capital.
Tripathi said that families, society, and governments have failed to inculcate boys with the values of respecting women. He added that a change in this regard could bring a significant decline in crimes against women.
Tripathi spoke with the girls—drawn from 17 wards of Narela—and assured them that he would personally speak to the Commissioner of Police to ensure improvement in the Women's Helpline 1912.
Responding to queries over the recent loss of Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris at the hands of Donald Trump, Tripathi said that patriarchy is prevalent around the world. He claimed that 10 per cent of the people did not vote for Harris just because she's a woman.
Tripathi said that anyone who engages in molestation should not be let off, even if it means facing some difficulty. He advised young women to bring such matters to the notice of authorities, and subsequently seek help from the police if no action is taken on the complaints.
