Around 60 people dies due to severe heat wave in State

Jharkhand is experiencing severe heat. So far 60 people have died due to heat wave. In Palamu division alone, 31 people have lost their lives due to heat wave.

The heat wave continued to wreak havoc in many parts of Jharkhand for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. In the last 24 hours, nine people have died in Palamu district due to severe heat wave. Two people died in Chatra, one each in Garhwa and Chaibasa. On May 29, five people died across the State. While on May 30, 14 and on May 31, 28 people died in the State.

The maximum temperature of Medininagar in Palamu was recorded at 45.4 degrees. Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar will not get relief from heat wave even during the next two days. While in the remaining parts of the State, dust storm and rain accompanied by thunder may occur during the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility of lightning at some places of the State. The speed of the storm can be 40 to 50 km per hour.

Many parts of the State got relief from scorching heat due to weather change and rain on Saturday. In the afternoon, dense clouds covered the capital Ranchi and there was light rain at some places along with strong winds. There was sporadic rain in Chatra, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Ramgarh, Giridih and others districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is changing due to western wind at the upper level of the atmosphere and partially eastern wind at the lower level in the state. This change is likely to remain for the next three days.

Just couple of days earlier the heat in Jharkhand was breaking all records. On Friday too, the mercury of Jharkhand remained above 47 °C. The highest temperature in Jharkhand was 47.4 °C in Daltonganj. Garhwa experienced scorching heat of 47.1 °C and Saraikela 46.3 °C.

Storm, rain and lightning have also wreaked havoc in many areas of the state. During this period, a total of eight people died in the state. Two people died due to lightning in Chatra, a 17-year-old student in Bengabad of Giridih, two in Ramgarh, one in Hazaribagh and a teenager in Deoghar. Here, one person died due to lightning in Silli of Ranchi. On the other hand, a woman died in Chandwa of Latehar due to being buried under bamboo due to the storm.
