Appropriate to compare Kejriwal to Nadir Shah: BJP

Friday, 16 August 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Thursday strongly condemned state Home Minister Kailash Gahlot for his speech during the Delhi Government's Independence Day celebration where he called the incarcerated Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a modern-day freedom fighter and called it ‘shameful’.

While calling Gahlot’s speech ‘political’, Sachdeva said that it would have been more appropriate to compare Kejriwal to Mughal Ruler Nadir Shah.

“The way Kailash Gahlot mentioned the names of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia and praised them, it seemed as if he was not addressing the Delhi government's ceremony but addressing party workers from the AAP’s platform,” he said.

Sachdeva lashed out at the senior AAP leader and said, “Whether it was his mention of old electricity and water schemes in the Independence Day speech or the use of words like "forces against the nation trying to stop Kejriwal," everything seemed like political propaganda.”

The Delhi BJP chief called him a bigger anarchist than other AAP leaders. Attacking him, he added, “listening to Gahlot's political speech, it seemed that he wanted to prove himself a bigger anarchist politician than Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Atishi.”

Further, he said that the comparison has hurts families of freedom fighter. “Kailash Gahlot comparing Arvind Kejriwal to freedom fighters is shameful and has hurt the sentiments of thousands of freedom fighters and their families,” Sachdeva said.

“It would not be an exaggeration to say that by politicizing the Independence Day address, Kailash Gahlot insulted democracy and the constitution, and the people of Delhi will never forgive him,” he said.

Additionally, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Independence, Sachdeva hoisted the national flag in the presence of senior leaders including Northwest Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia and extended his greetings to the people of Delhi on Independence Day.
