Annapurna Devi sets highest victory margin record in Jharkhand

Thursday, 06 June 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Former Union Minister of State Annapurna Devi retained the Koderma seat by defeating Vinod Singh (CPI-ML) with the highest margin in Jharkhand i.e. 3,76,240. The victory of Annapurna Devi was not easy as against her was CPI (ML) candidate and Bagodar MLA Vinod Singh.

The sitting MLA from the Bagodar Assembly constituency in Kodarma, Singh has cultivated a reputation for “raising the issues of the poor and marginalised classes” in the Jharkhand Assembly. Before his win in the Bagodar poll in 2019, he lost in 2014, with his previous wins here coming in 2009 and 2005.

But despite Opposition unity, Annapurna proved herself by defeating Singh with the highest margin.

Followed by Annapurna the highest margin was of Dhullu Mahto who won the Dhanbad seat by 3,30,065 votes in a straight contest. The BJP maintained its winning track on the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat for the 4th successive term as its candidate Dhulu Mahto defeated Anupama Singh of the Congress by 3,30,065 votes in a straight contest.

Dhulu Mahto polled 7,82,423 votes while Congress candidate Anupama Singh got 4,52,358 votes.  There were 25 candidates, including a transgender on the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat in which the other 23 candidates lost their deposit.

Three-time Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto was this time  (2024 election) given a ticket in place of three-time sitting MP  (2009, 2014, 2019) PN  Singh and he (Dhulu Mahto) stood on the faith of the party by retaining the seat.

The BJP has won all three seats- Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad with sizable urban pockets. Sanjay Seth retained the Ranchi seat defeating Yasashwani Sahay of the Congress by a margin of 1,20,512 while Bidyut Baran Mahto retained the Jamshedpur constituency by a margin of 2,59,782. Maho won the Jamshedpur seat for the third consecutive time. Vidyut Varan Mahto has been continuously winning the Lok Sabha elections on BJP ticket since 2014. He defeated his nearest rival JMM candidate Sameer Mohanty by 2 lakh 59 thousand 894 votes.

Sitting BJP MP Nishikant Dubey won the Godda Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand by a margin of 1.01 lakh votes, defeating his nearest rival Congress's Pradeep Yadav, the Election Commission said.

Dubey has been winning the seat since 2009. In 2019, he retained the seat by defeating Yadav, who had then contested as a JVM-P candidate, by a margin of over 1.84 lakh votes.

Vishnu Dayal Ram defeated RJD candidate Mamta Bhuiyan from India Alliance by 2 lakh 88 thousand 622 votes on Palamu Lok Sabha seat. Ram got 7 lakh 62 thousand 290 votes, while Mamta Bhuiyan got 4 lakh 73 thousand 668 votes. RJD had lost the election from Palamu Lok Sabha seat in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Counting of votes was done in 22 rounds on the Palamu Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday. In all the rounds, BJP candidate Vishnudayal Ram got more votes than the RJD candidate. Vishnudayal Ram also got the most votes in the counting of postal ballots. BJP got more votes in all the assembly constituencies under Palamu Lok Sabha constituency.
