Punjab Police on Friday said it has dismantled a Pakistan-ISI backed terror module operated by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) associates. The action resulted in the arrest of two individuals, including a juvenile, linked to the planting of an improvised explosive device (IED) at Ajnala Police Station last month.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the module was orchestrated by BKI operatives Harvinder Rinda and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, with execution directed by foreign-based gangster Gurdev Singh, alias Jaisel. The arrested individuals, identified as Jashandeep Singh, alias Danny, of Jandiala Guru, and a 17-year-old juvenile, confessed to their involvement in the November 23 IED incident and other planned terror activities.
Police recovered two Chinese-made P86 hand grenades, a sophisticated Turkey-made 9MM Zigana pistol, ammunition, and a black Splendor motorcycle from their possession. This recovery underscores the depth of the module's plans, which included targeting government establishments across Punjab.
DGP Yadav highlighted the operatives’ dual role in terror activities and drug peddling. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were lured by their handler, Gurdev Jaisel, with promises of money and drugs. They were tasked with planting IEDs and handling consignments of weapons and explosives,” he stated.
The Ajnala IED incident was claimed by BKI via social media, raising alarms about the evolving nature of cross-border terrorism. Acting on intelligence, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, led by AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann, launched a targeted operation resulting in the arrests.
The DGP reaffirmed Punjab Police’s commitment to eliminate threats from cross-border terrorism and organized crime. “Efforts are ongoing to unearth the complete network of Rinda, Happy Passia, and Jaisel. Our priority is to bring all associates of this module to justice and ensure Punjab remains safe and secure,” he asserted.
The arrested individuals confessed to receiving multiple consignments of weapons and explosives. Investigations are underway to trace the logistics of these deliveries and their connection to anti-national plots targeting Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Batala.
