In the aftermath of the recent resident doctor case incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, medical professionals across the country have raised concerns about the safety and security of healthcare workers. This incident sparked meetings between representatives from the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA), and Resident Doctors' Associations of government medical colleges and hospitals in Delhi with the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi.
The associations voiced their demands for stronger safety measures for healthcare workers. In response, the Union Ministry acknowledged their concerns, assured them of comprehensive efforts to ensure the security of healthcare professionals, and announced the formation of a committee to address these safety issues. The Ministry also highlighted that 26 states have already enacted legislation for the protection of healthcare workers.
