Rural Development Secretary Chandrashekhar conducted a one-day workshop of Jharkhand Watershed Scheme at SIRD, Ranchi through video conferencing on Thursday. He instructed all 28 project implementations to achieve the target under the project by doing quality work.
The Secretary directed that wherever work is being done in the project area, it should be ensured that Citizen Information Board (CIB) related to the scheme is installed.
MGNREGA Commissioner-cum-Chief Executive Officer Jharkhand Watershed Mission (JSWM), Rajeshwari B, told all the agencies that the desertification of Jharkhand state, which is suffering from Critical Water Stress, is 69 per cent, which is the first place in the country and 40 blocks of the state are like this.
Implementation of watershed plan is the only solution to prevent/deal with these situations. All 28 PlAs were directed to identify barren/fallow land in the next one month under the project and make it suitable so that the ground water level there can be improved. This should be done as a priority so that water and soil can be conserved.
Awadh Narayan Prasad, Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary Pramod Kumar, Rural Development Department welcomed all the participants and threw light on the project and requested for timely completion of the project. All the officers/employees of Watershed Mission were present in the workshop.
