Scores of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar to express their anger against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and party convener Arvind in the alleged excise policy linked money laundering case by keeping a ‘Samuhik Upwas’ or mass fasting in the scorching summer heat.
Many supporters and workers along with senior party leaders kept a fast to show their support to the AAP supremo with photos of revolutionaries including B.R.Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh displayed on stage. Gandhi’s famous hymn “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” along with other patriotic songs were also played by singers with people singing in chorus in their display of love and support to Kejriwal.
Despite the baking heat and the fasting by the supporters, the atmosphere remained energetic and enthusiastic, echoing with slogans of “Jail ka jawab, Vote se” (the answer to jail is through votes) and “Jail ke tale tootenge, Hamare neta chutenge” (Jail locks will be broken, our leaders will be freed).
Yellow t-shirts and caps with “Main Bhi Kejriwal” (I am also Kejriwal) printed on them were sported by many in the event along with them carrying posters showing Kejriwal behind the bars and AAP flags.
While the senior party leaders including Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi and Somnath Bharti sat on the erected stage, a carpet was laid out on the site for others to sit.
Many AAP workers couldn’t find water bottles to quench their thirst while some took many of them at a time.
