The 76th Army Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in the headquarters of Uttarakhand Sub Area on Monday. The celebrations began with the wreath laying ceremony at Shaurya Sthal. Major General Atul Rawat, Brigadier Sanjog Negi, station commander, brigade commanders and veterans paid homage to martyrs and remembered the supreme sacrifice of all personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony was also attended by serving officers, JCOs and other ranks of Dehradun station who resolved to emulate the heroic deeds of the fallen soldiers of the armed forces.
The Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15 to mark the day when the when General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa, took over the command of Indian Army from General FRR Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949 and became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of army in independent India.
