Five Maoists including CPI Maoist organization's zonal commander Ranthu Oraon, involved in the killing of 16 policemen, have been arrested. Gumla district police have taken this action.
Ranchi Range DIG Anup Birathre and Gumla SP Shambhu Singh gave this information in a press conference on Thursday at Gumla SP office.
The Maoists who have been arrested include zonal commander Ranthu Oraon, who has a reward of Rs 5 lakh, Jaishankar Mahato, Rohit Oraon, Raju Ahir and Sulendra Munda. One carbine, three rifles, three country-made pistols, one gun and 137 rounds of bullets were recovered from them. All these Naxalites have been arrested from Anjan forest of Gumla police station area.
Randhu Oraon was active in Gumla district for the last two decades and has been involved in all the Naxal incidents that took place in this area. So far he has been involved in a total of 77 Naxal incidents. These include 62 cases in Gumla district, 10 in Lohardaga district and five in Latehar.
Oraon on June 26, 2007 attacked the police force in Gumla's Raidih police station area, in which two policemen were martyred, he October 21, 2010 attacked the police force in Gumla's Raidih police station area, in which one policeman was martyred and the rifle and bullets were snatched, he March 13, 2013 fired indiscriminately on the police forces in Gumla's Kurumgarh police station area, in which one policeman was martyred and two soldiers were seriously injured and he April 7, 2013 fired on a patrolling vehicle in Gumla's Chainpur police station area, in which five policemen were martyred.
