Forty children were injured, four of them critically, when a portion of the balcony of a private school in Barabanki collapsed on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Awadh Academy School in Barabanki district when several children, during the morning assembly, gathered on the balcony with a weak foundation and it collapsed.
As the news of the collapse of the balcony spread through the town, a crowd gathered there and the local police also came.
“During the morning assembly, several children ended up on the balcony while coming downstairs and the balcony’s foundation must have been weak, which is why it collapsed,” said Barabanki’s Superintendent of Police Dinesh Singh.
The injured children were transferred to the trauma centre of the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment .
