Four deaths have been reported in the last two days at the government owned old age home(OAH) located at Sabalpur in Dhanbad.
Incidentally, the outsourced operators of this old age home cremated the four bodies without informing the District Social Welfare officer (DSWO) who happens to be the nodal officer of this old age home.
Those who died include Bhaskar Chakorvarti (85), Meenu Bhatttcharya (84), Yamuna Devi (85) and Bulu Chokorvorty (72).
While Bulu died on Monday, the other three died on Tuesday.
Incidentally, the bodies of all four were cremated without holding a postmortem and informing the DSWO-cum- district nodal officer.
When asked, DSWO Anita Kujur said that she was not aware of deaths and cremation. "I would be able to provide details only after holding an inquiry". She also was shocked to note that the outsourced agency kept her in the dark over the incident .
Meanwhile, Nawshad Gaddi who is managing this OAH since August 23 said, all were too old and were not keeping good health. When asked why the district social welfare officer was not informed of deaths, kept mum.
Meanwhile locals said, the OAH lacks facilities that are needed to manage such facilities.
Meanwhile, AJSU leader Pappu Singh has tweeted to chief minister Champai Soren as well as deputy commissioner regarding the deaths and has demanded an inquiry. He said cremating the bodies without holding postmoterm indicates something unusual.
