Dewas district residents are grappling with significant delays in the issuance of Registration Certificates (RC) for vehicles. Over 3,500 RC cards are reportedly pending with the Dewas Regional Transport Office (RTO).
Vehicles have been delivered to buyers from showrooms, but the RTO has failed to provide the necessary RC cards to owners, creating numerous difficulties for vehicle users.According to sources, the backlog of RC cards has been building since Diwali, leaving vehicle owners frustrated.
The RC card is a critical document proving vehicle ownership and contains essential details such as the registration number, engine and chassis numbers, model, and color of the vehicle.
Without an RC card, vehicle owners face trouble during police checks, especially when traveling outside their local areas. Many have alleged that obtaining an RC card requires payment of bribes at the Dewas RTO. Reportedly, the bribes range from ?300 for two-wheelers, ?1,000 for four-wheelers, and ?1,500 for tractors. It is further alleged that the process has been streamlined for those willing to pay bribes through agents connected to the RTO. These agents reportedly gain access to the One-Time Password (OTP) required for the registration process. The OTP is entered into the official RTO computer system, and digital RC cards are issued swiftly.
Sources also claim that Dewas RTO Jaya Vasava has been posted in the district for more than five years and is often unavailable in the office. It is alleged that she spends most of her time at her residence in Indore, leaving the public without proper access to services.
The situation has caused widespread dissatisfaction among vehicle owners in the district, who are demanding immediate action to resolve the delays and ensure transparency in the RC card issuance process.
