The Centre of Happiness at AIIMS Bhopal, founded by Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, celebrated its first Foundation Day on Thursday, September 5, 2024. He emphasized the Centre's role in promoting mental well-being and optimism through a scientific approach to happiness.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh highlighted the importance of practicing happiness as a science, especially for healthcare professionals, medical and nursing students, and paramedics, who often face high levels of stress due to long working hours and intense responsibilities.
He also acknowledged the emotional, physical, and financial pressures caregivers and patients endure, stressing that the Centre aims to improve resilience and optimism in such individuals. He noted, "Happiness and good health are interconnected, and our goal is to develop a scientific understanding that can foster both."
As part of the celebration, Prof. Manas Mandal from IIT Kharagpur delivered an insightful talk titled "What Makes Us Happy - The Science Behind Happiness." The event also featured musical performances, dances, and other cultural activities. Attendees included residents, nursing staff, students, faculty members, patients, and their families, all coming together to celebrate the occasion.
Prof. Ajai Singh commended the work of the Centre of Happiness and suggested integrating happiness-related topics into academic curriculums to encourage a broader scientific understanding of well-being in society.
