19 cyber criminals from seven States arrested in special drive

The Delhi Police arrested 19 cyber criminals from seven States across the country, including the cybercrime hotspots Jamatara and Giridhi in Jharkhand in a special drive against cyber fraudsters.

According to the police on Friday, in effort to crackdown on the increasing cyber crimes, arrests were made in six different types of modus operandi, including online stock market investment, online work from home through Telegram, fraud through fake customer care numbers, frauds through 99 acre app and Quiker app and driver track plus (Newmo) and phishing and cyber bullying or harassment through Instagram impersonation.

“Complaints and cases of the Cyber-crime have been increasing significantly across the nation and national capital and in the south west district also the volume of the complaints is increasing. In order to take strict and impactful action against the cyber fraudsters especially in the area of cyber crime hotspots and other growing cyber crime areas , teams from cyber Police Station South West District were formed and targeted main fraudsters,” DCP Southwest Rohit Meena said.

Further, he added that after intensive work on the identified cases and leads all the team undertook the operation in cyber crime hotspots and other cities of seven  states within a week Bihar ‘s Samastipur, Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh, Sehore and Biaora, Uttar Pradesh’s Paratap Garh, Maharashtra’s Mumbai Rajasthan’s Ajmer and  West Bengal.

About 148 complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) were found linked to this and seven cases were worked in the operation.

“There are a total of 42 mobile phones and 42 mobile phones, 21 SIM cards, six ATM cards and two Fake Aadhar Cards were recovered in this operation. Apart from this, over 35 lakh rupees were seized in the alleged accounts of the fraudsters,” Meena added.

The police arrested nine people in the driver track plus and phishing case, two for 99 acre and Quicker app, one in fake customer care, one in online job fraud, five in online share market investment and one in Impersonating through Instagram and harassing and bullying.
