DOCTORSPEAK

On eve of Doctor’s Day, we spoke to medical professionals whose insights underscore the significance of this occasion:

Dr Rajinder Dhamija, Director, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Services (IHBAS), Delhi: The Day gives me an opportunity to focus on one of my priority areas. Brain health issues in India, like stroke, epilepsy, headache disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia, pose significant challenges due to disparities in healthcare access and infrastructure, especially in rural areas. Limited awareness, delayed diagnosis, and social stigma worsen the burden on affected individuals and families. Addressing these challenges requires enhanced healthcare resources, improved public awareness, and measures to combat socioeconomic barriers to care.

Dr. Jyoti Kapoor,  Founder / Director, Manasthali Wellness: Doctors are healers of hope. Consulting a mental health expert is crucial when facing mental health issues as they possess the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective support and treatment.

Dr. Ashwini Anil Kumar Sirapanasetty, Obstetrics & Gynaecologist Surgeon: The medical field stands as a crucial pillar of society, much like the legislative, judiciary, and executive branches of government, and the media.

Doctors shape society by playing a vital role in every phase of our lives, from childbirth onwards. An assurance from a doctors boosts the morale of a patient to live a longer life and also to heal from an grave injury

Dr. Prashant Mehta, Senior Consultant and Program Director (Lymphoid Neoplasms and Cellular therapy ) Department of Medical Oncology Amrita Institute of Medical sciences, Faridabad: My desire for our nation is improved access to healthcare for everyone, high-quality indigenous research/drug development, optimized communication, transparency, and teamwork between medical teams and patients and their families.

Doctors aren’t infallible gods but compassionate humans dedicated to easing human sufferings.
