The post garnered over one million views in less than a day.
As millions were glued to their screens as India defeated Pakistan by six runs in the highly-anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, celebratory posts flooded social media. As fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ended the game by taking three wickets, the Delhi Police were quick to share a quirky post while tagging the New York Police Department (NYPD). The police posted, "Hey, @NYPDnews We heard two loud noises. One is 'Indiaaa.. India!', and another is probably of broken televisions. Can you please confirm?"
The post went viral almost immediately. It was reposted by over 7,700 people, reached over one million views, was liked by over 46,000 people, and had more than 1,200 comments. However, this is not the first time that the police department is deploying social media for its use.
An 'X' user replied, "The one handling this deserves a raise," while another posted “What a ripper. I admire the fellow who manages this handle. You guys rock,” and accompanied it with smileys.

As the trend went viral, the Delhi Police jumped on the bandwagon of memes that used this trend to warn people about texting while driving. Delhi Police posted, "If you look at your keyboard while driving, the thing between Q and R will meet you with a challan."
On Sunday, the Delhi Police yet another quirky post alarmed the New York police of a ‘fight’. On a post in X, the police said, “Dear @NYPDnews, Just to tip you off: An interesting, delightful fight is expected at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium today. Good luck to #TeamIndia! #INDvsPAK #INDvPAK #T20WorldCup”
