As heavy rain lashed several parts of the national Capital on Friday morning, the city was left inundated, causing significant traffic disruptions. Tragically, a teenager drowned on a waterlogged road near The British School in the upscale Chanakyapuri area of Central Delhi.

In addition, two people have died due to electrocution in the city in the past two days. A 40-year-old woman died after being electrocuted on a waterlogged street, and a 40-year-old man lost his life when rainwater entered his house and he got electrocuted after the water came into contact with the electrical circuit.

In the past one and a half months of the monsoon season, Delhi has witnessed nearly 30 rain-related deaths.

According to the police, the 15- year-old deceased Sourabh lived with his family at the Vivekanand Camp in the same area.

The teenager and some of his friends were playing in the rain on the waterlogged road near the British School when he accidently ventured into deep water and drowned.

The victim's friends informed his family members, who immediately reached the spot, pulled him out of the water and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, the officials said. The police said the body of the victim has been sent for postmortem and further investigations are underway.

DCP Central M Harsha Vardhan said on Friday, an incident of electrocution of a lady was received at Ranjeet Nagar police station and the place of incident was flooded due to heavy rains. The victim was identified as Seema, who was electrocuted through current in water in the street while she was going towards her house. Further, on Thursday evening at 07:07 PM, a PCR call regarding electrocution of a person at his house in Kirari, Prem Nagar was received at Prem Nagar police station. “Local police team immediately reached at the spot where a male person was found in unconscious condition. He was identified as Sanjay and was shifted to hospital where Doctor declared him brought dead.  Initial enquiry revealed that the deceased had died due to electrocution when the rain water had entered his house from the road and electrified the water after coming into contact with electric circuit,” a senior police officer said.

Disruption in traffic movement was reported from across the city as streets were left waterlogged with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) receiving 16 calls related to waterlogging and five related to tree falling.
