Two arrested for robbing woman by impersonating police, army personnel

Delhi Police has arrested two men for allegedly robbing a woman by impersonating police and Army personnel.

According to the police on Sunday, the accused have been identified as 28 year old Mohammad Shahrukh and 38 year old Satish Jaishwal. The police also recovered one gold mangalsutra, Rs. 10,900, and one white coloured Wagon-R Car used during commission of crime.

On September 6, a woman filed a complaint of cheating at the Kamla Market police station. “An incident of cheating with a lady was reported at Kamla Market police station. During enquiry, it came to know that while waiting for Bus at Bus Stop, Minto Road, one of the accused approached her in a car and asked directions for Kapashera,” DCP Central M. Harsha Vadhan said.

Meanwhile, another accused standing at the bus stop replied that he knew the route and he was also going towards Kapashera Border and boarded the car. "The accused persons impersonating themselves as police and Army personnel lured the complainant to get into the car for a free ride till Kapashera border," said the officer, adding that they allegedly robbed her of mangalsutra and ATM card.

According to police, they checked the CCTV footage and tracked the car's owner. “During investigation, local enquiry was made, CCTV footage of the place of occurrence and place where the victim was dropped were checked in which one Wagon R Car used during commission of offence was identified,” the DCP added.

Accordingly the owner of the car was tracked but it was found out that the car was handed over to some other person. “The team put more effort into the case and after several enquiries the team got the clue about one accused namely Mohd. Shahrukh. The team immediately rushed to his residence and apprehended accused Mohd Shahrukh from his residence,” he said.
