Despite a stellar victory in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections in which it picked up 29 seats wresting back as many as six from the BJP, the Trinamool Congress is losing at least 20 Assembly segments if compared to the 2021 State elections. Not only this, the party is trailing in at least 8 Assembly seats presently held by some important State Ministers. In 2021 the party won 212 seats whereas it is ahead in only 192 Assembly seats in 2024 general elections.

Among the ministers in whose seats the TMC is trailing are Shashi Panja and Sujit Bose the two Cabinet colleagues considered close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. While the TMC is trailing from Shyampukur Assembly seat presently held by Panja the4 party is behind the BJP at Bidhannagar seat too from where Fire Brigade Minister Bose won in 2021.

Apart from this the party is trailing behind BJP in Hemtabad seat from where State junior Education Minister Satyajit Burman won in 2021. In Hemtabad the TMC is trailing by more than 8,000 votes. From Harischandrapur Assembly segment of neighbouring Malda North Parliamentary constituency --- held by State Minister Tajmul Hussein --- the party is trailing by behind the BJP more than 5,000 votes whereas from the Mothabari Assembly seat in Malda South parliamentary constituency --- a stronghold of State minister Sabina Yasmin --- the TMCis trailing behind the Congress by more than 34,000 votes. The Congress has won the Malda South parliamentary seat.

Down south in Krishnagar parliamentary seat TMC MP Mohua Moitra has trailed by more than 9,000 votes from Krishnagar South Assembly segment. The seat was won by State minister Ujjwal Biswas in 2021.

Similarly in Contai and Tamluk parliamentary seats falling in East Midnapore district a stronghold of State Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari the TMC has not only lost to the BJP but also it is trailing behind the saffron outfit from the two Assembly seats from where two State ministers Akhil Giri and Biplab Roychowdhury won in 2021.
