Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh will lead the Indian delegation at the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) in Brasilia, Brazil to be held from November six to eight, according to a Rajya Sabha statement on Monday.
The 10th P20 Summit will promote debates and exchanges under the motto “Parliaments for a just world and a sustainable planet”. Currently India is looked upon as one of the most active partners of the G20 group of nations.
Parliamentarians of the G20 will debate and discuss on many issues including ‘The contribution of parliaments to the fight against hunger, poverty, and inequality; ‘The role of parliaments in promoting sustainable development’ and ‘Parliaments in the construction of global governance adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.’
The delegation is accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Manoj Kumar Jha along with P C Mody, Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha and Utpal Kumar Singh Secretary General Lok Sabha among others.
Since parliaments can make a substantial contribution to fulfilling the G20’s mandate, the P20 was set up at the 2018 Summit. It is a platform for Speakers of Parliament to discuss and explore avenues to provide a parliamentary contribution to the implementation of G20 decisions.
