Holding that the contest in Maharashtra was between between one or two billionaires and the poor people, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said here on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bent on handing over the Rs 1 lakh crore worth Dharavi land to industrialist Gautam Adani, while the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was all for supporting the poor, youth and unemployed people in the state.
Addressing a news conference on the final day of the campaigning for the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly polls, “On one side, Adani is eying Dharavi land, while on the other side are our workers, and youth – betrayed by the MahaYuti government are aspiring for a better life”.
Linking Modi’s much-discussed slogan Ek-hai-toh safe-hai to Adani, Rahul said: “The real intention behind PM Modi's slogan Ek-hai-toh-safe-hai is to hand over Dharavi land to Adani. For PM Modi, it means `Adani-ek-hai-toh-safe-hai’”.
“A billionaire like Adani wants Mumbai's land, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 lakh crore. But our focus is on supporting Maharashtra's poor, youth, and unemployed,” the Congress leader said.
Displaying posters that showed a safe (a treasury box) with photographs of Modi and Adani on it and the Dharavi redevelopment map, Rahul said, “Adani is worried about the real safe (treasury box). Without the PM’s support, he cannot take away the Dharavi land from its people”.
“The real issue in the election is whether the wealth of Maharashtra should be given to the people of Maharashtra or to one person,” Rahul
said.
