Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday attributed the rout of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s divisive slogan ‘Batenge to katenge’, MahaYuti’s flagship scheme “Mukhya Mantri Ladki Bahin Yojana”, use of large sums of money by the ruling alliance and lack of adequate support from the OBC voters.
“The poll outcome is totally unexpected. After all, it is a verdict given by the people in the state. I have not seen this kind of an electoral outcome in my entire political career. That being the case, we need to study the reasons for the Opposition MBA’s debacle in the polls and go back to people and work enthusiastically once again”.
Queried as to what could be the reasons for the Opposition MVA’s shocking defeat, Pawar said: “One of the reasons is that the ‘Batenge to katenge’ slogan given by Yogi Adityanath contributed to polarisation among voters.
