Falling under the Chakradharpur (CKP) Division of the South Eastern Railway zone, Modi laid the foundation stones of road over bridge (ROB) at Chhota Govindpur and Barigora level crossings and an underpass at the Salgajhari level crossing on February 26. 2024 and all the projects are within three kilometres range of the Tatanagar station.

“For years residents waited for the ROB at Barigora, Govindpur and Salgajhari. This would have certainly given much relief to people, particularly the motorists of surrounding areas who take the route to reach the main city. But it was that elections and now this assembly polls ahead not an inch of work you can see. Now we feel all these projects are a poll jumla,” said Sanjay Singh, a resident adjacent to Salgajhari Halt when The Pioneer visited to check status of the projects announced PM six months ago.

Social and political outfits besides students’ groups have been demanding ROB at the three level crossings for around past one decade as these are crucial for further socio-economic activities as the these projects fall on the main Howrah Tata Mumbai railway line that also bifurcates the rural and urban Jamshedpur industrial town.

Mahendra Jha, a resident near the Govindpur Halt, also rued the fact that the project was limited only to the Lok Sabha sops announcement and it has remained only on the media clippings. “Even today we laugh when we see the foundation stone laying video clips on YouTube,” Jha said.

Interestingly after the projects were announced a lot of development activities took place ever since these projects were announced and thereafter foundation stone by PM.
