Modi attends swearing-in ceremony of BJP’s Majhi, TDP’s Chandrababu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers attended the swearing in ceremony of first BJP chief minister of Osdiha Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday. Earlier in the day Modi led his Ministers and senior party leaders to grace the oath ceremony of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu who was sworn as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth term in alliance with the BJP. 

Governor Rabghubar Das administered the oath of secrecy and office to three time MLA and triabl leader Mohan Charan Majhi and other members of his council of ministers at Janata Maidan. Senior BJP leader and Patnagarh MLA KV Singh Deo and debutant from Nimapara assembly segment Pravati Parida took oath as deputy chief ministers of Odisha.   This is the first time that a BJP government has been formed in the eastern state.

Apart from Modi, BJP chief JP Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, Ashwini Vaishnaw and others attended the ceremony. Suresh Pujari, Rabinarayan Naik, Nityananda Gond, Krushna Chandra Patra, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena and Krushna Chandra Mohapatra took oath as Cabinet ministers. Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Suryabanshi Suraj, Pradeep Balasananta, Gokula Nanda Mallick and Sampad Kumar Swain were sworn in as ministers of state (independent).

Several Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states including UP , Goa, Rajasthan, MP, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand were also present. Odisha’s outgoing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also attended the ceremony.

BJP for the first time got a clear mandate in Odisha, ending the 24-year stint of the BJD. The saffron party stormed to power in Odisha by securing 78 seats in the 147-member Assembly while Patnaik-led BJD got 51 seats, Congress (14), CPI(M) won in one seat while Independents got three.

Chandrababu Naidu was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth term on Wednesday at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers. Janasena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan, Nara Lokesh, son of Naidu, among others, took oath as Ministers.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer administered the oath to Naidu and others. Modi hugged and patted Naidu on him assuming office. Later, the PM held the hands of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan and fondly spoke to them and also had a brief conversation with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and his wife Latha on the dais.
