Mumbai star-turned-BJP leader Mithun Chakrabarty on Saturday announced his retirement from politics saying hence forward he would devote time in films and not in politics. Chakrabarty campaigned widely for the saffron outfit both in 2021 Assembly polls and 2024 general elections.
After casting his vote at Belgachia in North Kolkata, Chakrabarty said, "enough is enough … no more in politics … now I have decided that I will quit politics and devote my time in films because I have to fend for my family and myself and earn my bread and butter."
When asked as to why he left the Trinamool Congress of which he was a Rajya Sabha member and joined the BJP and whether he was dissatisfied with his stint in 'Neta Giri' he said, "I did things on my own volition … I was asked my political boss Nadda ji to come and campaign during the elections and so I did … now I think it is enough … I should devote time in films … so I am quitting politics and will now be doing films only."
Reacting to his decision to quit politics TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that the Mumbai star had understood that the saffron outfit was going and so he was leaving the sinking ship.
