A new 'Shahjahan Sheikh' threatened to take control of large swathes of Trinamool Congress dominated parliamentary constituencies hours before the seventh phase of polling even as alleged goons of party strongman and MLA Shaukat Molla spread terror in more than one Assembly segments, including Bhangar area of Jadavpur constituency, that saw massive blood spilling several deaths during last year's panchayat elections.

At least 20 people were injured and many of them had to be hospitalised as TMC goons resorted to night long bombing and attacks on members of Indian Secular Front, sources said.

"We have seen armed men moving around the area threatening voters and polling agents," said a local BJP leader requesting anonymity.

"Our polling agents have been asked not to go to the booths ... same in the case of ISF," he said.

CPI(M) Srijan Bhattacharya reportedly rushed to the area but was refused entry by the police sources said adding Central forces and police that were rushed to the area had recovered several exploded country made bombs.

Meanwhile the Election Commission of India in Friday issued orders restricting movement of Molla sources said adding he had been asked not to venture out of Canning Assembly area where he lives. Reports of TMC motorbike brigades roaming all about Basirhat and Barasat constituencies also came in, sources said the goons were asking people not to step out of their houses.

Incidents of violence were also from areas like Ganguly Bagan, Ramgarh and other places, sources said.

"We have requested the ECI to take steps but if things do not improve then the people will resist and the authorities will have to take responsibility," CPI(M)'s Meenakshi Mukherjee said.
