Amid the blame game between the Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi and Chief Secretary, Naresh Kumar has written to the Delhi government underlining that files are pending regarding desilting of the city’s drainage system with the officials of government.
In the note, Kumar claimed that a report on the sewage issues of the city, dated March 15 this year is pending with Atishi. Stating that for three decades no Drainage Master Plan has been prepared for the city, he submitted a report to her on March 17.
“As no directions were received from the Minister (Water) on the report, the undersigned on March 17 requested the Minister to issue necessary directions on the report to the department concerned and DJB, so that further necessary action can be taken in this regard by all concerned. However, instructions from the Minister (Water) are yet awaited on the report,” he stated.
The report also spoke about the unsatisfactory pace of desilting work in peripheral lines and internal lines, he added. Further he claimed that that pursuant to water logging in the city after high water-level in Yamuna river in the year 2023, multi-stakeholder meeting was convened involving all drain owning agencies to deliberate on a comprehensive strategy for scientific drain management to avoid water logging and instances of flooding.
