Cornered over Ramakrishna monks remarks, Mamata slams BJP

Facing barbs from all corners for foul-mouthing Hindu monks of Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevasram Sangha Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday lapped up the opportunity of a counterattack on the BJP even as she slammed the saffron party for placing Prime Minister Narendra Modi above Lord Jagannath.

The Chief Minister who was earlier targeted by Narendra Modi for maligning the monks of various Hindu religious organisations — for covertly siding with the BJP and even planning riots at places like Rejinagar in Murshidabad district — on Tuesday hit back at the saffron party for counting the Prime Minister above the God.

“The arrogance of this party has gone to such levels that they don’t even spare Gods … so much so that they have now started claiming that he (Prime Minister) is even above Lord Jagannath …just imagine their height of conceit where a mortal is placed before the God,” Banerjee said adding “if you really want to become a God then we have no problem … but for that you will have to reside in temples so that we will go there and worship you with flowers and incense sticks … but why this arrogance.”

The Chief Minister was apparently referring to a faus pas by BJP leader Sambit Patra who allegedly said that the Lord was the Bhakta or a devotee of the Prime Minister. Subsequently however, Patra proffered an apology claiming his statement to be a slip of tongue.
