A BJP leader was allegedly manhandled and thrashed on Sunday by workers of some other party when he was trying to stop illegal borewell work in the Kapashera area of southwest Delhi.
The Delhi BJP claimed that the incident happened when BJP leader Tejender Yadav and councilor Jaiveer Rana, accompanied by three-four other party workers, had gone to the area to check the borewell work.
Jaiveer Rana said, “Late last night, I received a complaint from Kapashera residents that AAP’s Ward President Arun Sharma, along with his associates, was drilling an illegal borewell near a lane close to the Delhi-Gurgaon border.”
He said he went to the site, objected to the activity, and asked for written permission. Police arrived on the scene, but Arun Sharma only showed papers on his phone and couldn’t present a written permit. According to Rana, when pressure was applied on Arun Sharma to halt the borewell work, his group began shoving, leading to BJP’s Kapashera Mandal President Yadav, being injured by a blow to the head. “He was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Palam Vihar, near the border. Kapashera Police have registered a case,” the party said in a statement.
South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri has requested a report from the District Magistrate on complaints of illegal borewell drilling in Bijwasan. Rana also claimed that Sharma has close connections with the local water mafia and, in 2017, fired shots in a dispute over water supply, resulting in a lengthy jail term. “His role in such conflicts has been significant,” he said.
According to the FIR a case under section 110 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide), 351 (3) (Criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (joint liability) has been registered.
