Close on the heels of Mamata Banerjee charging the BJP for “hatching a conspiracy to partition Bengal to suit its own political needs,” State Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari said, his party had no policy to bifurcate the State and that it only wanted a check on trans-border infiltration.
“The BJP has a clear stand … we don’t want a division of Bengal … we only want the Government to take infiltration seriously to control the quickly changing demographic pattern which has become quite dangerous for the Hindu population of the State,” Adhikari said.
“Infiltration has become a major issue … the indigenous Muslims are not a problem for Bengal … it is the infiltrators including the Rohingyas who are entering this State and then migrating to the other parts of the country who are the real problems … we want the Hindus safe,” Adhikari said.
Adhikari’s statement came close on the heels of the Chief Minister accusing the saffron outfit of playing divisive politics.
“During elections the BJP rakes up divisive issues … they have hatched a conspiracy to divide Bengal … but we will not allow that to happen,” Banerjee on Monday told the State Assembly adding her party would resist all attempts to divide her State.
