BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Tuesday accused the AAP Councillor Arti Chawla of illegally running lodge for IAS aspirants with no proper exit and entry in old Rajinder Nagar where three students died after rain water entered the basement of Rau’s coaching centre in the area.
Poonawalla posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) from the site and said, “In Old Rajinder Nagar I am at property of AAP corporator Arti Chawla — it is barely 500 metres away from Rau’s classes See the violations in her own property — illegally running rooms for aspirant students who pay 18,000-25,000 rupees per room per month!”
Talking about the living conditions of the student in the centre, he said, “No proper exit and entry. It’s a death trap!! She is herself doing business of ‘Maut Ka Basement’ and ‘Maut Ka Kamra’ - Running illegal commercial activities in building — multiple violations but no action by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Fire services (DFS).”
He said that she has been missing since July 27, the day when the incident happened and alleged that it is a clear complicity with coaching classes. “Corporators , MLAs, MCD, fire department , officials, PWD — all are complicit in this criminal corruption and negligence. Atishi, Saurabh and Kejriwal must resign. Will they sack Arti Chawla?” he questioned.
