Even as the Congress-led Opposition was demanding the scrapping of the Agniveer scheme launched by the Indian Army, 841 Agniveers passed out of the age-old Madras Regimental Centre at Coonnor, atop the western Ghats in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The parade square at Srinagesh Barracks reverberated with the rhythm of military band as the would-be soldiers marched past the command post in a spectacular style. It was a colorful though sober function. The Agniveers had a grueling training which lasted for 31 week before they were qualified for the passing out parade. The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Sunil Kumar Yadav, Commandant, MRC. During his address the Brigadier complimented the Parade Commander and participants for the immaculate turnout as well as crisp and synergized drill movements indicating high standards of training and discipline imbibed by the Agniveers. He also complimented the instructors and staff at the Madras Regimental Centre for the high standards of training being imparted to the Agniveers whom the brigadier described as future of the organization.Parents of the Agniveers from across the country had reached Wellington and were honored by the Commandant acknowledging their role, contribution and continued support.
