The uneven rainfall in the season in the month of July-August had remained the dams and ponds unfilled to the capacity except for the big dams like Bargi, Indira Sagar, Tawa and Tillar, sluice gates are yet to be opened for the rest.
Similar is the condition of the water bodies of the capital Bhopal as Upper Lake, Kolar, Kerwa, Kaliasot Dam are still empty in the range of 2.65 feet to 14 feet.
Bhopal has so far received an average of 21.62 inches of rain, while it should have received 33.71 inches of rain. According to this, only 64 percent of the rains have been recorded. The water bodies have not been able to fill due to 36 percent less rainfall, 70 percent of the city's population depends on these water sources, while 30 percent of the population is supplied with Narmada water.
The city gets 440 MLD (Million Liters Daily) water supply everyday. Kolar Dam supplies 40 percent water, Narmada Line 30 percent , Bada Talab 25 percent and Kerwa Dam supplies water to 5 percent of the city. There are a total of 2.30 lakh tap connections in the city.
The water storage capacity of Upper Lake is 1666.80 feet. Right now it has 1664.15 feet of water.
The total water level of Kolar Dam is 1516.40 feet. Currently 1502.46 feet of water is accumulated in it.
So far 1666.69 feet of water has come in the Kerwa Dam with a total of 1673 feet.
The water level of the dam is 1650.26 feet. There was no inflow of water in August. Due to this, Kaliyasot river is in dry condition. The total water holding capacity of the dam is 1659 feet. Due to this the dam is still 9 feet empty.
