In a shocking incident on Monday morning, a 45-year-old man identified as Tilak Mahto was shot dead by an unidentified assailant near a railway tunnel under the RIT police station area in Adityapur. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:30 am when the victim was returning home after attending nature's call at a nearby location. Upon receiving reports of the shooting, a police team rushed to the scene, accompanied by grieving family members of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Tilak Mahto had no criminal history, and robbery does not seem to be the motive behind the attack as nothing valuable was stolen from him. The authorities are currently focusing on identifying and apprehending the assailant responsible for this heinous crime.
RIT police station OC Sagarlal Mahatha stated, "We are working diligently to trace the perpetrator of this killing. Our initial investigation indicates that this was an unfortunate incident involving an innocent victim. We are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to gather more evidence."
Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Anand Prakash also arrived at the crime scene to assess the situation and offer condolences to the bereaved family members. He assured them that the police are fully committed to bringing the assailant to justice promptly.
The deceased, Tilak Mahto, originally hailed from Jhabri village in Chandil and had been working as a hywa driver for a company located in Gamharia. For the past year, he had been residing at his sister's house in the RIT police station area.
The body of the victim has been transferred to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination. A case of murder against an unknown assailant has been registered, and the police are leaving no stone unturned to solve the case and provide closure to the grieving family.
