Two brothers were attacked and killed with a knife in an alleged dispute with the guests of a wedding procession in Khetasarai area of Jaunpur district on Tuesday night.
Police later arrested six accused in connection with the killing.
According to Shahganj police station in-charge Shubham, around 11 pm on Tuesday, a marriage procession arrived in Khetasarai town under Khetasarai police station. Ajay Prajapati (23) and his brother Ankit Prajapati (20) had set up a fast food stall near the Durga temple. Some guests in the baraat came near his shop to drink alcohol, during which Ajay and Ankit had a dispute with them.
As the altercation escalated, some people attacked both the brothers with knives, injuring them seriously.
Shubham said the injured were taken to Sadar Hospital where they died during treatment. He said that a case had been registered against six accused and a search had been launched for them.
The arrested accused were identified as Mukesh Bind, Nishu Bind and Satish Bind. Three pistols, three cartridges and a knife were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile in another wedding ceremony in Pratapgarh, a clash broke out between the groom and bride sides in which one person was killed while half a dozen were injured.
Due to the chaos, the marriage could not take place at night. The marriage was solemnised only on Wednesday morning after which the groom left with his bride.
According to reports, Lakshmi, daughter of Bhagirathi Yadav alias Mukandee of Shekhpur Athgawan village in Patti Kotwali area of Pratapgarh, was to be married to Shubhang Yadav, son of Om Prakash Yadav of Gadehari in Nagar Kotwali area. When the wedding procession arrived on Tuesday night and people were dancing to the tunes of the DJ, there was a dispute between bride and groom’s side over playing of Bhojpuri songs in the night. The altercation escalated and both sides started fighting with sticks, rods and chairs. The housewives chased the wedding guests and beat them.
During this stampede, the groom’s friend Shiv Pratap (28), a teacher and resident of Rahatikar in Udaipur police station area, fell into the well. On hearing the screams, nearby people arrived and took help of the fire brigade personnel to take out the teacher but he died by then. Over half a dozen injured were shifted to hospital.
The police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Later senior relatives from both sides reached a compromise after which the marriage was solemnised on Wednesday morning.
