Prominent labour leader Ghanashyam Jena, who worked as the general secretary of the All India Food Corporation Workers’ Union, president of the Paradip Port and Dock Labour Union and head of the IFFCO Employees' Federation, passed away at the age of 93 on Monday.
The news of Jena's demise has left the entire labour community in Paradip in deep sorrow. Over his illustrious career spanning more than five decades, he tirelessly championed the rights and welfare of workers.
Originally hailing from Bhadrak district, Jena earned nationwide recognition as a dedicated labour leader. His legacy also includes the establishment of the Ghanshyam Hemlata Vocational Institute near the Puri-Konark beach.
Jena’s demise came just a day after the loss of his wife Hemalta on Sunday.
