Inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Clinic in AIIMS Bhopal was done today by Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh. This clinic will be run every Wednesday from 3 to 4 pm. In this clinic, experts from six departments of AIIMS Bhopal - Pulmonary Medicine, Psychiatry, CFM, ENT, Dentistry and Radiation Oncology will jointly provide their services to patients to get rid of tobacco addiction.
About 1 million deaths occur every year due to tobacco consumption, while every 6 seconds one person becomes a victim of death due to tobacco. India ranks second in tobacco consumption. Dr. Pankaj Goel, Head of the Dental Department, said that this would be a unique clinic in itself where integrated treatment would help in getting rid of tobacco addiction. Expressing happiness, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh said that to get rid of tobacco addiction, we have to work together.
Apart from this, awareness will have to be spread in schools and colleges and an opinion will have to be created so that the young generation is not attracted towards it.
Dr. Singh said that the bad effects of tobacco indirectly affect the society as well, we have to create awareness for this also.
