Tax collections on petrol, diesel, cooking gas rise in 4 yrs

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the State Government’s collection of VAT on fuels and GST on cooking gas witnessed a decent growth during the past four financial years. The State has collected VAT of Rs 29,652.46 crore between 2019-20 and 2022-23.

 

According to a written statement made by Finance Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha, the State had collected Rs 5,797.31crore revenue from petrol, diesel and cooking gas in the Financial Year 2019-20, which was increased to Rs 6,398.51 crore in 2020-21.

 

Similarly, the tax collection from the sources again increased to Rs 7,945.14 crore in the year 2021-22. It further escalated to Rs 9,511.49 crore during the last FY. 

 

As per the statement, the State has collected Rs 9,415.93 crore VAT on petrol during the last four years while the VAT collection from diesel stood at Rs 19,405.24 crore.

 

Moreover, the Government has got Rs 831.28 crore GST from cooking gas in the period. The State is collecting 5 percent GST on LPG domestic gas cylinders.

The State has set a target to collect Rs 13,243.90 crore revenue from petrol, diesel, STF, natural gas, liquor and petroleum crude oil.  

 

Notably, State’s revenue collection has registered a growth of 12.9 percent till August of the FY 2023-24 over the corresponding period of previous year.

 

The Government has collected revenue of Rs 41,231 crore till end of August, 2023 against the collection of Rs 36,510 crore during the same period of last year.

 

State’s Own Tax Revenue collection has recorded a growth of 14.4 per cent during April -August of 2023-24 with a collection of Rs 20,131 crore.

Similarly, total non-tax revenue  collection till end of August is Rs 21,100 crore which is 11.5 percent more than the collection of previous year.

 

The mining revenue collection has witnessed a minimal growth of 2.8 per cent till August end. The State has collected Rs 17,250 crore from this source during the current year in comparison to the collection of Rs 16,784 crore last year.
