Soyabean farmers on verge of destruction: Babele

Thursday, 28 September 2023 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Farmers producing soybeans in Madhya Pradesh are facing a serious agricultural crisis, at present the situation is that the soybean crop planted in 53 lakh hectare area in Madhya Pradesh is on the verge of complete destruction, alleged State Congress Media Advisor Piyush Babele, while talking to media persons at Press Conference.

Troubled by this, the farmers are continuously demanding from the government that a survey of crop damage should be done and compensation and relief amount should be distributed immediately. But far from giving compensation, the Shivraj government has not even conducted a survey of the damage caused to the crop, due to which the farmers are forced to protest.

Farmers mainly cultivate soybean in Vidisha, Sehore, Khargone, Khandwa, Narmadapuram, Indore, Dhar, Ratlam, Ujjain, Harda, Betul and Mandsaur districts of Madhya Pradesh. More than 40 lakh farmers of all these districts are troubled by the destruction of soybean.

Piyush Babile said Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the self-proclaimed Sultan of Madhya Pradesh, has made such policies during his 18 years in office due to which soybean farmers are getting hit from all sides.

Madhya Pradesh is not only lagging behind Maharashtra in the per hectare production of soybean, but now Madhya Pradesh has also lagged behind Maharashtra in terms of area under cultivation of soybean crop. While the area under soybean in Madhya Pradesh was 53.68 percent till the year 2017-18, the area decreased to 39.83 percent in 2021-22.

Babele said that it has become the nature of Shivraj government to scam the farmers at every level in Madhya Pradesh. In the month of March this year, a case came to light in Chief Minister's home district Sehore where a scam was committed in distributing compensation to farmers. In this case, it was revealed that many Patwaris and other officials, instead of giving compensation to the victim farmers, had transferred the compensation amount to the bank accounts of their family members. The then Collector had given instructions to prosecute the concerned officers and employees in the case of scam of Rs 12 crore.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath repeatedly drew the Chief Minister's attention towards the crisis facing the farmers, but instead of listening to Kamal Nath ji's warning, Shivraj remained busy in his skilful acting.
