SC directs no coercive action against Abhishek Jha

Thursday, 06 July 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

In a major relief to Abhishek Jha the husband of suspended IAS officer and MGNREGA scam accused Pooja Singhal, the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed for no coercive action against Abhisek Jha.

Jha is husband of suspended senior IAS officer Pooja Singhal lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail after her arrest in a money laundering case. The Apex Court order gave much relief to Jha. The division bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia issued the directive.

Jha had moved the apex court after the Jharkhand High Court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

It may be noted that in January this year the Supreme Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Abhishek Jha. In the petition, anticipatory bail was sought for the care of the daughter, which was rejected by the Supreme Court. It may be noted that Abhishek Jha, accused of money laundering, did not get relief from the Supreme Court.

Refusing to grant any interim relief, the vacation bench of the apex court had fixed July 5 as the next date of hearing.

The High Court had dismissed the petition after the hearing. After this he filed a petition in the Supreme Court. Be aware that the ED is probing the MNREGA scam and money laundering case. Pooja Singhal and her husband have been accused in these cases. During the last hearing, Abhishek’s advocate had told the court that he is a businessman. His daughter is ill.

Advance bail should be given to take care of the daughter. On this, the court had said that there are serious allegations against the applicant. The court said that his wife Pooja Singhal has been granted bail twice to take care of the sick child. In such a situation, no relief can be given at the moment. It would be better if the applicant surrenders then file a bail petition.

Meanwhile, in another development Central probe agency, Directorate of Enforcement (ED), today started questioning Barharwa (Sahibganj) based mines owner and trader Krishna Saha in an illegal mining case.

Questioning started after Saha turned up before the ED’s regional office responding to a summons sent by the probe agency on July 1. Earlier on July 8 last year the probe agency had raided Saha’s residence.

An FIR was lodged against Saha and others at the Ranga police station in connection with the death of two labourers during illegal mining on the night of June 30 in Chapande mountain of Patna zone area of Sahibganj district.
